Play Lunaris by WMS: Review. This 10-reel and 100-payline game is a slot machine developer by WMS. The game was inspired by Lunaris moths – meaning crescent-shaped ones. The game is known for its Colossal Reels engine which makes it different from other slots. Genre Gaming Music Comment by Carlos Enrique Correa. 2018-05-04T15:40:30Z Comment by Kenny Vee. I was playing this slot tonight and hit the bonus round - I won a decent amount of money (about $20 on a 60¢ wager), but listening to this song was almost as much fun as winning the money.
Players feeling tired or a little run down can take a moment to slip away to the peaceful Lunaris slot machine. This wonderful game has stunning visuals and a soothing soundtrack that create an absolutely entrancing experience. The action is still plenty lively though, with a full set of colossal reels stacked to the side providing 100 possible paylines.
While Lunaris may not quite provide the same excitement as its competitors, the free spins and mystery symbols still keep the game lively. Let’s see what these moonlit slots have to offer.
WMS provides an absolutely beautiful slot machine, which you can play for free online. The design is detailed and perfectly creates a serene, nighttime environment. The background of fireflies lighting up a twilight forest sets the stage, and the tranquil blue reels and interface match the theme, while still keeping the symbols easy to read.
The actual interface is also nicely designed, with a well-positioned panel that can pop up in the top left corner of the screen to show exactly which paylines triggered and with what symbol. Considering how busy colossal reels can be, it’s a great touch.
While the overall graphics are lovely, with vivid, detailed colors and textures, the symbols are also all well designed.
The game uses standard card suits for the lower symbols. While they’re a little generic, the crystalline design still fits in well with the rest of the game. The other symbols revolve around the stars and the enchanted meadow, with a telescope, 3 constellations, 2 fields of flowers, an astrological chart and Lunaris moths and caterpillars.
The flowers are particularly beautiful since they always come in as a large stacked portrait that depicts an entire garden scene. Although, the green moths are also lovely as they fly across the screen to fill up the colossal reels.
Aside from being a pleasant game to look at, it’s also quite easy on the ears. The soundtrack creates a serene and soothing environment. Each spin is accompanied by quiet, simple background music that evokes little fluttering sounds and flowing water through chimes and soft notes.
Even the sounds for winning paylines and bonuses are fairly gentle. It all works together to create a relaxing session.
Lunaris uses two sets of 5 reels for the game. The main reels are a set of 5 that go 4 rows high on the left side of the screen. The colossal reels are on the right side and stack up 12 rows tall. There are 100 potential paylines in total, although players can opt to only play 20, 40, 60 or 80 if they wish.
Note that the paylines do not cross between the reels, each set has its own paylines. All paylines have to start on the leftmost reel in their set of 5 and move across to the right.
The astrological chart is a wild symbol that can fill in for anything except the mystery or bonus symbols. Note that wild symbols cannot appear on the 1st reel of the colossal reels, making it a little harder to start up a payline there.
The big twist for Lunaris is naturally tied right into the moth symbols. During any spin, a mystery moth symbol can appear on the 1st, 3rd or 5th reels on the main reels.
These mystery symbols contain 5, 8, 10, 15 or 20 moths, and when they hit they send the listed number of mystery moths over to the colossal reels to cover spaces. The moths change all of the spaces they land on to be the same randomly selected symbol, which can be anything except for the bonus symbol.
Depending on how they spread out, this can set up some incredible wins with a lot of paylines triggering at once.
In general, the gameplay tends to be a little more relaxed. If nothing else, having to wait for the colossal reels to settle tends to slow down the gameplay. The payouts are fairly small, but the focus is all around hitting a lot of the 100 paylines in a good spin.
The little nickel and dime wins are good for stretching out the game, but players will only see the money flowing in when they’re lucky enough to get a good mystery reveal or a good set of colossal reels.
Note that many of the symbols in the game come in stacked, with the high-value fields of flowers always coming in as a tall stack. This makes it a little harder to start a payline sometimes because a “wrong” stack can easily stop a lot of paylines from forming, but when the stacks come in right players can quickly get ahead.
That said, it’s all about small payouts adding up since the only thing close to a jackpot is tied into the free spins bonus.
The Lunaris online slot sticks to a fairly simple bonus round. During any normal spin, players can see a bonus caterpillar symbol appear on reels 1, 3 and 5 on both sets of reels. Getting a bonus symbol in at least 3 reels is enough to start the bonus round, although more bonus symbols mean higher rewards.
Getting 3, 4, 5 or 6 reels with bonus symbols in them respectively gives players 8, 12, 20 or 25 free spins and 2x, 10x, 15x or 25x their total bet. The 25x total bet payout for 6 bonus symbols is the highest payout in the game.
The actual bonus round is an otherwise typical game though. Players can go through their set of free spins, with payouts tied to the bet that triggered the bonus round. The mystery symbol can still trigger during a free spin, and it is possible to retrigger the bonus round during a free spin.
Any new free spins will just be added to the counter. Once the free spins all play out, players will receive their winnings and go back to the normal game.
The Lunaris slot machine is a pretty great game that’s an easy recommendation. Players who want really fast slots or big, single jackpots are going to be a little disappointed, but everyone else should find this machine refreshing.
The gameplay and design work together to create a game that’s perfect for a long, relaxing session to recharge from more hectic slots.
The 96.04% RTP should also keep veteran slots players happy too. While it’d be nice to have an extra unique touch to spice up the free spins bonus, it’s fine to just have a standard bonus since it already has the interesting mystery feature. Lunaris just gets a lot of little things right to create a pleasant slot machine.
